Hi there! I’m Brit. I’m a Midwestern gal, small shop owner, wife to my one and only, and mama to my two little loves. I’m a self-taught interior designer and avid DIYer who’s really into home décor. One room at a time, my husband and I have turned a neglected ranch-style house into our family’s dream home, documenting the process along the way. I was a model, world traveler, graduate scholar, and elementary school teacher in my past lives. As a result, I draw from a broad perspective in the way I approach design and life. Thank you for following along as I share my home, projects, and sources of inspiration with you. I’m so glad you’re here!
I’ve always been wild about extraordinary spaces. What began as an Instagram account dedicated to interior design and the ongoing transformation of our ranch-style home; britdotdesign ultimately turned into a lifestyle blog dedicated to décor and DIY.
I’ve always admired my great grandma, Lil, who was an impeccably dressed woman of her 80s with an ageless spirit and killer eye for design when I knew her as a young girl. In fact, some of my earliest memories are of getting lost wandering through her house, just taking it all in. I recall that she had an unsurpassed ability to juxtapose styles and have it look just perfect – like the portrait of a Victorian woman in an ornate gilded frame that hung on the dutch door leading from her den to her sitting room that now hangs in my office. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been inspired by her and my hope is that the things I make will help others create homes as perfectly styled and collected as was my great grandma’s.
